Dr. Keith Miller is the former president of Virginia State University, where he presided from 2010 to 2014. A consultant for leadership in Virginia, Dr. Keith Miller serves as an associate with the AASCU-Pension Center for Professional Development.
Dedicated to the advancement of higher education, the AASCU-Pension Center is comprised of former university and college administrators who work to help those currently in similar positions. Consultations are provided for those new to their positions, as well as for established professionals seeking additional guidance.
The center’s “Leadership Transition and Succession Management” service helps incoming and outgoing leaders have smooth transitions. The center defines a six-phase model for choosing new university leaders, including guidelines on preparing for the search, forming search committees, and conducting performance reviews.
The AASCU-Pension Center can also assist higher education leaders with academic planning and development. Consultants are there to help university leaders prepare students for a society that requires engaged citizens to have well-rounded educations.
Former president of Virginia State University, Dr. Keith Miller is also the president emeritus for Lock Haven University. During his 25 year career in academic administration, Dr. Keith Miller has been able to use the management and business skills that he has gained throughout his entrepreneurial background. Recently, Dr. Keith Miller was asked to judge an entrepreneurial competition sponsored by SCORE.
Founded over 50 years ago, SCORE is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to helping small businesses achieve their goals through education and a successful mentoring program. Through over 320 chapters, members offer services at low or no cost to those who need mentoring or business tools.
Each year, the organization hosts the SCORE Awards Gala, an event celebrating the success of American small businesses that demonstrate a unique vision within the small business community. Honors are awarded in categories such as the Diverse Small Business Award, the Outstanding Woman-Owned Small Business Award, and the American Manufacturing Small Business Award.
The 2015 SCORE Awards Gala was held on September 17, 2015, in Washington DC. Entrants were required to “Snap a Business Selfie” by answering key questions about their business. Winners were businesses that have been assisted by SCORE and exemplified how small businesses have made America a better place. All proceeds from the event support the SCORE Foundation.
Dr. Keith Miller, former president of Virginia State University, has over 25 years of experience in prestigious positions at major universities. During his time at Virginia State University, he oversaw university functions, capital building projects, fundraising efforts, as well as academic and extracurricular activities. One program that enjoyed major success during Dr. Keith Miller’s time at Virginia State University is VSU Cares, an annual mobile health and dental expo.
VSU Cares is an event that works to promote and demonstrate good health practices, while offering medical screenings and dental services. Representatives from several local and national agencies attend the event in order to promote career opportunities within the healthcare industry.
The 2nd VSU Cares took place in April a few years ago at the Daniel Gymnasium on the VSU campus. Numerous volunteers were on hand from the Schools of Nursing and Pharmacy to offer services to the community. In addition, dental screenings were available for children aged 1-12 years. Community members of all ages were in attendance.
